Voted best vocalist in the 2004 BBC British Jazz Awards. He has recorded 8 highly acclaimed albums featuring musicians including Cedar Walton, Kenny Washington, Joe Lovano and Lew Soloff. He appears regularly on television and radio, including the BBC Big Band and as a presenter for Radio 2’s “Big Band Speical”.
He has performed throughout the world with artists such as Elvis Costello, Sting, Paul McCartney and Bjork and he collaborates regularly with Claire Martin and Liane Carroll.
Ian studied Composition at King’s College, London and has arranged and produced albums for Charlotte Church, Gwyneth Herbert and Jamie Cullum, as well as scoring music for films.
He has lectured on the Middlesex University Jazz Course and held master classes at the Guild Hall School of Music, amongst many others.
