The course will be running from Sun. 10th - Sat. 23rd Feb. 2008.
The course is open to players of all instruments and singers of all experience levels. We also take non-players - both partners of participants and non-playing couples or individuals. We also offer special reduced places for students and younger players wishing to share group accommodation.
The course provides an introduction to playing Cuban music and covers key areas including the history of Cuban music; key Cuban music styles, rhythm in Cuban music, song form and structure and performing Cuban music. We will provide pre-course introductory material.
As well as our daily workshops, the Course also offers participants organised trips around Havana visiting music clubs, the Casa de la Musica, bars and restaurants and nearby beaches. Participants also have free time to make their own exploration in Havana and beyond.
Our main tutor will again be Sara McGuinness, who will be supplemented by different Cuban tutors including Ronald Insante (voice and percussion) and we will bring in other Cuban tutors for different instruments.
There will also be masterclasses from top Cuban bands - in 2007 these included top Son band Sierra Maestra.
