Sara McGuinness is well known on the UK Salsa scene, she is leader of 8
piece band El Equipo and 5 piece band Soneando. She has played written and
arranged for many of the top bands in the country. Sara has played and
studied in Cuba with musicians from the Buenavista Social Club. Recently she
has been recording and performing extensively in Mali, West Africa with top
musician Dramane Coulibaly. Work includes Beijing International Festival,
China, tours of Indonesia, Brunei and Algeria, concerts in the Queen
Elizabeth Hall, Ronnie Scotts, Bloomsbury Theatre, as well as numerous
festivals and clubs around the UK and Ireland.
Sara also runs Malecon Productions, providing workshops and educational
materials in the field of Cuban and related music in Universities, Schools
and Colleges, teaches Performance in Latin, African and Caribbean Music in
Westminster University, Cuban Piano at the School of Oriental and African
Studies (SOAS), and Sound recording at Gateway School of Recording, SOAS and
the National Conservatoire in Bamako, Mali.
